Yesterday, 13th January 2026, MADAM, through the PSAVE Project, distributed low cost irrigation machines to three vegetable farmer groups in Madina, Mayagba, and Makent villages in the Bombali District.
The user friendly machines will enable farmers to effectively irrigate their crops during the dry season, reduce post-harvest losses, and significantly increase farm yields.
Speaking during the distribution, Mr. Mohamed Thullah, Field Officer of the PSAVE Project, reaffirmed the project’s commitment to promoting sustainable and climate resilient agriculture. He explained that the low-cost irrigation systems were carefully selected to match the capacities of the farmers, noting that they are user-friendly, require minimal maintenance, and will contribute to improved food security and increased livelihood in terms of nutrition and household income.
Mr. Thullah further stated that the distribution aligns with the MADAM’s goal of enhancing farmers technical capacities and improving livelihood outcomes.
He added that follow up training sessions on machine operation and maintenance, along with refresher Training on compost preparation to avoid the use of inorganic fertilizers, integrated pest management, good agronomic practices, post-harvest losses, and financial literacy to manage their household incomes, are planned to ensure long-term impact and sustainability.
Expressing her appreciation, Marie Sesay, a representative of the Tuma Farmer Group in Madina, said:
“We are truly grateful to the MADAM Project for this support. With these irrigation machines, we can now expand our vegetable production throughout the year, not only during the rainy season.”
