Youth Training and Service Centre
In March 2010 MADAM opened up the new Youth Training and Service Centre
The centre is strategically well located outside of Makeni and next to MADAM’s new head office on the Makeni-Magburaka Highway.
Two main training fields are offered:
Home management/Hotel Service and Car mechanics
MADAM provides training facilities for 18 students. Here MADAM focuses on the most vulnerable and marginalized young men and women.
Duration of the courses is 18 month for Homemanagement/Hotelservice and 12 month for car mechanics.
The training is divided into 80% practice and 20% theory.
The trainees will be working under realistic conditions and all at once the business serves as a refinancing source for the project.
The training is meant as a stepping stone to employment or self employment. According to the market analysis there is a desperate need for skilled labor, as well for mechanics as for trained hotel staff, since it is a growing industry in this region.
Home management/ Hotel service
The new restaurant which is open to the public has also a shop attached.
It serves as a link between all MADAM related programs.
There are links to the outreach-skills-training-centres - their products are for sale in MADAM's shop and to farmers, who are interested to sell their products for the restaurant.
According to the curriculum the training includes Health and Hygiene, Food preparation, Food and Beverage Service, Customer Service and Entrepreneurship.
Two new staff members have been employed for this department, Susan Y. Kondeh as a supervisor for the restaurant and Sidratu Kamara as the practical instructor for the food preparation. They are guided and introduced into the program by Elke Mazylis, who is the Senior Skillstraining-Advisor.

Garage for car/motorbike mechanics and maintenance of generators
The new garage started operating. The building is next to the cassava processing factory and opposite of the head office and restaurant.
The following services are offered:
- Repair and maintenance of cars and motorbikes
- Cleaning service for cars and motorbikes
- Repair and maintenance of generators
This is an important issue, since there is no electricity in Makeni and people exclusively depend on generators.
Beside the already employed mechanic, Mohamed Mara, two practical instructors for car mechanics, Kumba Mondeh and Foday Mansaray joined the team. Michel Mazylis, who is the Senior Technical Advisor for MADAM, will introduce the curriculum and supervise staff and trainees for the next two years.
